Budgeting

Budgeting 101

Folks generally dont keep track of their expenses, and a large percentage of people are spending more than they earn and dont know it. Being a netsavy member, you get access to a spreadseet that will help you see what your situation is. With a little practice and customizations to your spreadsheet you can even find out the day you will have to go bankrupt, or the day you are out of debt. Just get into the habit of tracking it first, then get started reducing your debt.

You can call the credit card companies and negotiate a lower interest rate.

Credit Counseling

May be a good idea for advice, but their are some pitfalls. Should you agree to pay an agency to settle your bills for less than you  owe, they will generally not tell you that the creditor, by law in order to write off that loss will report a 1099 income for the amount they lost to the IRS. So, you will be owing that money to are far worse creditor.

Old Bills

Many States have a statute of limitations on how long they can try to collect a debt.  Florida is one of them, and its 4 years. SO after 4 years if  you are called for collections, you can simply state that it is not collectible anymore. For a list of State Debt Statue of limitations check with you state .
